Warner Bros. musical fantasy prequel “Wonka,” starring Timothée Chalamet, has performed well above expectations at the global box office, surpassing other releases as the film gears up more markets and a digital debut as well.
‘Wonka’ US Box Office
“Wonka” claimed the 8th spot among the highest-grossing 2023 releases in the US with this weekend collections in the domestic run.
On its 6th 3-day weekend, the film grossed $6.4 million with a minimal drop of roughly 23% from the previous weekend showing its strong hold at the domestic ticket windows.
The cumulative total in the US stands at $187.2 million now, surpassing “Sound of Freedom” ($184.2 million) and “John Wick: Chapter 4” ($187.1 million) as the 8th highest-grossing 2023 release in the region.
‘Wonka’ Global Box Office
The film is also a success globally, with a total global gross now touching $531.8 million. The film had first released on 8th December 2023 before making its debut in US the next week on 15th December.
“Wonka” had a production budget of $125 million before marketing.
Paul King-directed family drama had a strong 7th weekend overseas, grossing $10.6 million with a roughly 30% drop from the previous weekend.
The film has performed exceptionally well in various international markets, with a major chunk of its collections coming from North America and United Kingdom.

Despite its success at the UK box office, Warner Bros. has decided to release “Wonka” for digital purchase in the UK on January 22, just 45 days after its initial theatrical release. This is a relatively shorter window compared to other recent Warner Bros. big-budget movies.
