Prabhas-led, Prashant Neel directed ‘Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire’ has dropped out of Netflix Global Top 10 list. The film had seen its digital release date on Netflix in just 28 day, premiering on 20th Jan last week, post its theatrical debut on 22nd December 2023.
Though, ‘Salaar‘ response on Netflix didn’t live up to the high expectation at the global level. However, there is a new entrant in Netflix Global Top 10 from the Indian cinema.
Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Animal’ is 8th Most Streamed Title on Netflix
Ranbir Kapoor’s controversial R-rated violent action family drama ‘Animal’, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga (Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh), has debuted at number 8 on Netflix’s Global Top Movies charts.
The film premiered on Netflix on 26th January, 8 weeks post its theatrical debut on December 1, 2023.
Called one of the boldest and most excessive-natured movie by critics, the film was a raging success at the Indian box office becoming Ranbir Kapoor’s 1st movie to cross $100 million mark at the global box office.
The movie grossed an estimated $14.5 million from North American with total overseas gross crossing over $29 million becoming the 3rd biggest Indian hit both in India and overseas after Shah Rukh Khan-led ‘Jawan’ and ‘Pathaan’.
‘Salaar’, upon its debut, trended in 13 countries on Netflix in first two days. ‘Animal’ is currently trending 23 countries as per FlixPatrol data.
The film is the most watched movie in countries like Bahrain, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Mauritius, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Sri Lanka, and UAE and in Top 5 movie in United Kingdom, Singapore, Malta, and Australia.
So, in terms of initial response on Netflix, ‘Animal’ has taken a comfortable lead over ‘Salaar‘.
The story of the film is about a son’s deep love for his father, which is tested as their relationship deteriorates, leading to a series of extraordinary events that trigger a drastic transformation in the son, driven by a desire for revenge, stretched over a massive 3 hour and 24 minutes on Netflix.
There were rumors that film will see an even extended version on Netflix, containing ‘Animal’ deleted scenes but those rumors certainly didn’t materialize as film is same as theatrical run time.
