Warner Bros. “Wonka”, that released a week earlier in UK than USA, is a huge hit at the region’s box office! The musical prequel before the events of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ following the story of Young Willy Wonka has seen UK become its second biggest market after North America.
The film has, today, broken past the final UK run of ‘Oppenheimer’.
Timothée Chalamet and Paul King’s collaboration has turned out to be a winning combination for all parties involved, as the movie had been number 1 in the U.K for six weeks in a row.
On this Tuesday at the box office getting past the $58.4 million mark, “Wonka” has now become Warner Bros.’s sixth-highest grossing film in the U.K. and the second-biggest of the last 10 years, trailing only behind last year’s biggest hit “Barbie” which was headlined by Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie.
The musical has also broken into the Top 30 highest-grossing films of all time in the U.K., surpassing films like “The Two Towers,” “Joker,” and “The Rise of Skywalker”.
The movie has now became the Top 27 highest-grossing films of all time in UK, overtaking last year’s blockbuster “Oppenheimer” (gross total $58.5 million), the Christopher Nolan and Cillian Murphy-headlined historic biopic on atomic bomb.
The film is the biggest hit at the UK Box Office of the 2023 year releases only behind ‘Barbie’.
“Wonka” has so far seen a gross total of $531.8 million at the worldwide box office.
Despite the strong hold at the box office, Warner Bros. has released the film for digital purchase in UK, available on Prime Video, YouTube, Google Pay etc.
Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Colman, Sally Hawkins, and Rowan Atkinson, among other supporting cast, has also played a role in the film’s critical acclaim and audience reception.
