Overpopulation next big headache of Pakistan
Dear editor,
Currently, Pakistan is the fifth most populous country in the region after China, India, the US, and Indonesia. Approximately, Pakistan’s population rate is about 220.9 million and growing in geometric progression. Moreover, Pakistan’s growth rate is 3.6 and every country needs to bring its growth rate below 2 percent in a year to reduce the population. At this rate, Pakistan may surpass Indonesia and become the fourth most populous country by 2030.
Undoubtedly, illiteracy is the main reason for the population explosion. Owing to this, about half of all married couples in Pakistan do not use or have access to modern contraceptive methods. As a result, every year over 3.8m unintended agencies is faced by Pakistan. However, early marriage, birth spacing, son preference, wrong customs, unawareness about contraception, have all contributed to the position where we are today. In order to solve these issues, the country’s contributions are negligible. In this regard, the solutions need to be comprehensive and integrated.
Alarmingly, this carelessness and mismanagement have been creating numerous calamities such as hunger, deforestation, waste management, unemployment, overcrowding, poverty, and other massive issues. It has proved that overpopulation jeopardizes the base of a nation and creates negative impacts on economic growth.
Despite this grim picture, the population explosion has not been taken seriously by the government. It is necessary for a country to control its population because the progress of a nation is directly proportional to its population. Whilst pandemic, the growth rate has been increasing instantaneously. However, it shows an alarming picture of Pakistan’s future.
I humbly request all political leaders, actors, scholars, sportspersons, and clerics collaborate with the government and make the masses aware of birth control. It needs to be focused as soon as possible otherwise it would create massive issues for the nation.
