A coronavirus crisis is affecting a scientific research center located in the Antarctica continent. According to media reports at least 16 of the 25 personnel are reportedly have turned positive results for the Covid-19 virus.
According to Le Soir, the Princess Elisabeth Polar Station, a Belgian center, has set tight restrictions to minimize the Covid-19 outbreak at the research base. And per the publication, that the very first positive case was discovered on December 14th among members of the group that had reached only at site one week prior following traveling from South Africa.
Two more persons of the traveling crew were later found to have a positive result as well. On the 23rd of December, these three positive persons were relocated, but still, more personnel got infected by the virus.
According to Le Soir, every one of the group members has already had two vaccine shots of the Covid-19, and neither of those infected is showing any serious symptom. The station is equipped with emergency medics and facilities to address those who acquire serious symptoms, as well as the ability to carry out PCR testing at the center.
This highly transmissible form of Covid-19, namely Omicron, was first discovered in South Africa.
