MCU’s latest superhero film ‘The Marvels‘ is ready to hit the big screen on Friday. However, the premiere shows are already rolling and critics are already out there with their verdict on this intergalactic adventure led by Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Ms. Marvel.
The reviews for Nia DaCosta’s directorial venture are, so far, as diverse as the characters themselves. But they’re more on the positive side. Read on what top critics are saying about the sci-fi action drama.
DigitalSpy’s Mireia Mullor states that, “The Marvels is everything the first trailers promised — a charmingly fun, silly, action-packed intergalactic ride led by three charismatic superheroes. And tons of cats.”
Mullor even suggests, “As long as Kamala Khan is in it, The Marvels paints a bright future for the MCU.”
However, Variety’s Owen Gleiberman offers a more critical perspective, lamenting, “The Marvel, in its busy way, comes closer to feeling like a sequel mired in entropy.”
IndieWire’s Kate Erbland brings a touch of positiveness in regard to MCU world to her review writing, “This film actually attempts to be new and fresh — Vellani and Parris have enough charm to power 10 more films.” She appreciates the moments of originality offered by Nia DaCosta.
Peter Bradshaw, writing for The Guardian, takes a more lighthearted approach: “Larson, Harris, and Vellani are an entertaining intergalactic ensemble.” He likens the film to “bubblegum”.
ScreenDaily’s review brings attention to the film’s modesty: “There is an appealing modesty to The Marvels, the shortest film in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and among the most playful.”
ScreenRant’s Molly Freeman reviews, “Ultimately, The Marvels is exactly what Marvel Studios does best — a fun superhero movie that mixes the silliness of the comics with exciting action scenes and grounded, relatable stories for its characters.”
“The Marvels“, starring Brie Larson as Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and Zawe Ashton as the main villain, releases in theatre worldwide on November 10, 2023.
