Corporal punishment is perhaps the most common type of violence towards children. This is any method of punishment wherein physical violence is employed with the intent of causing pain or suffering. It is a breach of children’s rights to human decency and bodily integrity.
Physical punishment is linked to increased child aggressiveness, antisocial conduct, and worse educational achievements. It reveals the consequences of physical punishment on children and their destruction. However, physical punishment is illegal in most countries, and several of them have banned it. Unfortunately, the system of punishment is still in effect in Pakistan, where kids are demoralized and oppressed by instructors in many parts of the country. Most madrassah and school teachers still maintain such traditions, which not only isolate the kids intellectually but also subject them to certain aggression.
According to Article 89 of the Penal Code of 1860, such heinous actions that utterly disrupt and destroy the lives of children are prohibited. The Pakistani government must establish and enforce laws to put an end to such illegal conduct.
