Moulana Abdul Haq Baloch
A man of his own Baloch traditions and simple lifestyle; Maulana Abdul Haq Baloch opened his eyes on the 5th of January 1947 at the house of eminent scholar Maulana Muhammad Hayat Baloch in Zamuran.
After getting his basic education about Islam, Poetry, Arabic, and Persian literature from his Father Molana Muhammad Hayat Baloch, he traveled to Karachi to join Darul-Uloom Karachi, one of the most prestigious religious schools in the country.
Meanwhile, the sudden death of his father compelled him to leave his education and support his family. After returning to Turbat, he joined the education department as an English teacher.
It is an interesting fact that besides being an Islamic religious scholar Molana Abdul Haq Baloch also had a keen interest in languages including English, Arabic, Persian, and Balochi. He was also experienced in teaching mathematics and particularly geometry.
During his student life in Karachi, he used to visit Syed Abul A’la Maududi and was much inspired by his teachings. This resulted in his selection of Jamaat-e-Islami as his political ideology.
He started his political career from Jamaat-e-Islami and served as provincial chief for fifteen years as well as deputy chief of Jamaat-e-Islami for three years. He took part in the 1985 general elections and succeeded in elections for both the provincial and national assemblies.
Later he decided to join the National Assembly of Pakistan. He remained a member of the national assembly from 1985-to 1988 during General Zia Ul Haq’s regime.
Moreover, he always defended the fundamental rights of Balochistan. His policies and thoughts are admired by not only Baloch political leadership, but also by politicians from other parts of the country.
Due to his flexible and polite behavior, he is equally famous in both religious and political schools of thought. Most of the observers found Maulana a logical and straightforward leader. He used to explain complex issues in a simple manner and settle the issues.
He was diagnosed with kidney disease and was treated for some years. On the 16th of March, 2010 Maulana Abdul Haq Baloch left us all after an unsuccessful kidney transplant surgery.
His thoughts pave a path for religious scholars, Baloch youth and political leadership, and political leaders of the country. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
