Real Development Should Transform People’s Lives, Not Just Economic Statistics
The real meaning of development?
According to some readers “Development is the process of improving the quality of all human lives and capabilities by raising people’s level of living, self-esteem, and freedom.”
The process of betterment is not of a single year but it takes many years and goals never – change from this improvement.
Development means an increase in the size or betterment of the economy such as more products and services. Development means an improvement in the living standards and lifestyles of people in an area.
Nevertheless, the role of development in Pakistan when it comes to the lifestyles of people or transforming their lives is not so empaistic. About 55% of Pakistan’s population is associated with the agriculture sector. Despite this, the actual problem with Pakistan’s agriculture is its low productivity. That is, because of various constraints the productivity potential of Pakistan’s agriculture is lower than the developed countries.
Pakistan’s economy is directly or indirectly associated with agriculture. Approximately 19.2% of our GDP comes from agriculture.
Most of the industrial units in Pakistan use raw materials coming from the agriculture sector. Opening of new job markets is part of development but poverty is halved, estimated from 40 to 20 percent. If the opening of new job markets is changing people’s lives that means the country is in the process of development which depends on good governance.
Transportation is considered very important for the prosperity and development of any country. With the development of modern road networks, most people have started using road transport. Modern transportation is changing people’s lives and their living standards.
Health is also an essential component of life. Improved health conditions can improve living standards. When the government of a country does not take care of the health of the people living in that country, that country may face hardships in development.
Development, from a caviling to a bolstering form, is betterment in living standards and lifestyles of peoples of an area. In the case of Pakistan, it is only developing for the 1% of the population, that own land, cooperation, industries, and factories but not improving the quality of all human lives and capabilities by raising people’s level of living.
