Universal Pictures have released the trailer of violent action thriller “Monkey Man” which is all set to hit theaters on April 5 this year.
The action thriller is directed by the Oscar nominated Dev Patel (Lion (2016), Slumdog Millionaire (2008)), who writes the film that’s starring him as well. The film is produced by Jordan Peele under his Monkeypaw Productions.
The movie was originally set at stream directly on Netflix but is now getting theatrically released by Universal Pictures on April 5th.
The basic plot of the movie, set in India, sees Dev Patel stars as a young man who participates in underground fight clubs wearing a gorilla mask to earn money.
The story revolves around his quest for revenge against the corrupt elite who have wronged him, inspired by the legend of Hanuman, a deity in Hinduism.
Apart from Dev Patel, the cast includes Sharlto Copley (Oldboy, Beast, Boy Kills World), Sobhita Dhulipala (Made in Heaven, The Night Manager), Pitobash (Million Dollar Arm), Vipin Sharma (Hotel Mumbai), Ashwini Kalsekar, Adithi Kalkunte, Sikandar Kher (Aarya, Monica, O My Darling), and Makarand Deshpande (RRR).
The trailer showcases intense action scenes reminiscent of “John Wick” movies, with Patel’s character engaging in brutal acts of revenge with lots of guns, blood display and hand-to-hand combat.
The movie marks Dev Patel’s directorial debut and promises to be an action-packed thriller with a gripping storyline that is set in India with multiple Indian actors playing integral role.
And with Jordan Peele’s involvement as a producer for the action saga, and backed by Universal Pictures, expectations are high for “Monkey Man.” The trailer looks intense, gripping, and something that Dev has never tried before, all adding to the anticipation among the fans.

“Inspired by the legend of Hanuman, an icon embodying strength and courage, Monkey Man stars Patel as Kid, an anonymous young man who ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash. After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.
