Lord of the Flies: Book Review
Lord of the Flies by William Golding tells readers about human nature and the savagery of mankind. It demonstrates the behavior of children and human beings in a society with no adults and no rules. This book explores how kids can become brutal and cruel without guidelines, showing that too much freedom is not secure but rather leads to brutality.
The book raises questions like why a leader is needed and what the importance of a leader is.
It also describes the disadvantages of not being united. The author highlights the inherent darkness of mankind and its behavior.
The book follows a group of schoolboys who become stranded on a deserted island after a sudden plane crash. Their dreams of independence suddenly come true, but unfortunately, only bad things start happening to them, and they must protect themselves from unseen monsters.
They start making their own rules and regulations, but they do not work effectively due to their lack of unity. This lack of unity leads to their complete mental and physical destruction. However, if they had been united, their group would not have fallen apart because unity brings strength.
The book suggests that electing a leader was a better choice, but Jack’s greed for power prevents him from accepting Ralph as their leader. Without any adults to supervise them, the boys become violent, cruel, and brutal.
The popular Jack becomes obsessed with hunting down wild pigs, and the group descends into savagery. While Ralph tries to maintain order, Jack refuses to listen to anyone.
At one point, the group splits into two while they are out hunting. Jack uses fear as a weapon to control the other boys, hunting and stealing from Ralph’s group and even killing people. This shows the brutal side of Jack.
Moreover, the most memorable characters are Ralph, Piggy, and Jack. It is a gripping story where authority in the hands of children creates problems for the young people. There are certainly some dark moments, but overall, it is a dramatic fairy tale.
In conclusion, anyone who reads this worthwhile book will agree that this kind of situation is difficult to imagine, let alone act out. Lord of the Flies is especially recommended for the young generation to experience new stories and enhance their imagination.
