Illiteracy in Pakistan
It is clear to everybody that with a population of 2.50 million Pakistanis bears the burden of higher illiterates in Asia. According to the recent economic survey, there are about 58% of the illiterate people in Pakistan. Although the rate has declined from last year’s 60%, even now it’s quite a big number to be neglected and it means that more than half of the Pakistani are uneducated. The reasons for illiteracy are slow economic growth, poverty, poor education system, lack of qualified teachers, etc. A higher crime rate is also a consequence of a lower literacy rate as illiteracy stops the social progression of society and decreases in economic development growth. So the government has to take bold steps to improve the literacy rate and also provides education funds to the education department to improve the education system.
