It is estimated that 99.9% of all species that have ever existed are now extinct.
These animals have become extinct due to both natural and human factors. There is only a smattering of information available about the spices that were present on Earth thousands of years ago.
The information on animal extinction is divided into two categories.
1. Pre-historic extinction
2. Modern-day extinction
Pre-historic extinction data consists of animal fossils discovered beneath the ground. The sizes and shapes of these animals are depicted in these fossils.
Till now 1446 pre-historic animal fossils have been discovered. Scientists believe that a global natural phenomenon, such as the filing of a large meteoroid, must have been the cause.
There is a modern-day extinction record for the last 500 years. About 840 animal species are thought to have become extinct during this period. There could be more extinct species.
190 species of birds are among those that have become extinct in modern times.
There are records of the extinction of 78 species for mammals and 572 species for animals.
Species have become extinct at an alarming rate over time. Human development has been widely regarded as the leading cause of extinction.
Humans have depleted natural resources at an astonishing rate to advance and improve their lives. These environmental issues include the clearing of the forests, which also serve as the habitat for these animals. Because of deforestation, there are fewer trees for birds to build nests and lay eggs.
Some pre-historical animals and birds are King Island Emu, Passenger Pigeon, Choiseul Crested Pigeon, Hawaii Mamo, Dodo, and Redtail shark.
Aside from these species, many more are becoming extinct as a result of hunting and preying.
