Balochi, our mother tongue, is one of the world’s oldest and purest languages. The term literature is derived from the Latin word “lettra,” which means “documents.”
In 1800s, the English tourists and writers also began researching the Balochi language and published their study on the Balochi language and literature. The great development and growth of Balochi language and literature occurred 60 years before and after the establishment of Pakistan when young educated Baloch established literary societies and wrote multiple books about Balochi language and literature to increase the language popularity and prominence.
Three institutions have played a significant role in the promotion of the Balochi language and literature. First, there was Radio of Pakistan in Quetta, followed by the Balochi Academy, Quetta. Third, and most notably, the University of Balochistan. These three institutions did a great deal for the Balochi language.
The University of Balochistan, Quetta, played a significant role in fostering interest in Balochi language and literature, as well as providing opportunities for master’s programs in Balochi literature.
Balochi Academy played a significant role in the promotion of Balochi literature in the 1950s. This Academy, on the other hand, has become a well-known institution for the advancement of Balochi language, literature, and culture.
