“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” has outperformed “Black Adam” at the global box office, becoming the highest-grossing film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) since the first “Aquaman” movie that had released 5 years back in 2018 and had joined the 1 billion dollar club.
The sequel, far behind the success of the first film, has shown average international performance. The film saw a $11 million overseas gross in its fifth weekend, accumulating a total $283.4 million gross internationally across 76 markets as per Box Office Mojo data.
In the United States, the movie has grossed $114.2 million so far. With that the superhero action film has reached a total global box office of $397.6 million, surpassing “Black Adam’s” $393.5 million.
With a production budget of $205 million (excluding marketing), the movie is close to reaching the breakeven point. It’s projected to achieve a final global run between $425 million and $440 million.
Despite receiving generally negative reviews from critics, the film has outperform other DC movies released after the first “Aquaman,” excluding “Joker” and “The Batman.”
“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is the final movie in the DCEU. The film has been made available for digital purchase/rent on streaming services from January 23rd.
