‘The Iron Claw’, the Emotional R-rated sports biopic drama starring Zac Efron, is performing well at the US Box Office. Despite losing theaters and the end of the holiday corridor after the New Year period, the movie has shown excellent legs with a relatively low drop in box office numbers in days after.
On the 4th Friday, the film grossed an impressive $691K from 1,591 locations, around 48% drop from the previous Friday.
The total domestic gross has now surpassed the $27 million mark. The film reportedly has a production cost of $15M.
Even though the movie lost 801 theaters with new releases like musical ‘Mean Girls’ and the actioner ‘The Beekeeper’ hitting theatres this Friday, the sports biopic maintained a decent box office performance, indicating positive word-of-mouth (WOM) around Zac Efron and the supporting cast’s heartfelt performance with the emotional story bringing in the genre fans to the theatres.
The 4th 3-day weekend is expected to bring in between $2M to $2.5M, and the 4-day Martin Luther King MLK holiday period is projected to yield $2.5M to $3.5M.
The other cast, including Jeremy Allen White, Harris Dickinson, Mawell Jacob Friedman, Lily James and others under the direction of Sean Durkin have made a film that has garnered critical acclaim on the way as well with a 88% approval on Rotten Tomatoes and a favorable reception from audience giving A24 another indie success.
If the momentum continues, the film could potentially achieve a final run in the range of $35M to $40M in the US and achieve a hit status in the domestic box office
