What is Democracy?
Democracy is the most commonly used mode of government in the modern era. Likewise, democracy is founded on the fundamental belief that the people are capable of self-government. Citizens are primarily equal, responsible, and, in a sense, civilised.
The term ‘Democracy’ is derived from two Greek words: ‘demos,’ which means ‘people,’ and ‘Krates,’ which means ‘to rule,’ so democracy literally means ‘people’s rule.’
“Democracy is a government of the people, for the people, and by the people,” said Abraham Lincoln, and this definition is an admirable description of democracy.
Unfortunately, Pakistan is a democratic state in which democracy is off the people, far from people, and rules the people.
In reality, a democratic government always works in the best interests of the people,In reality, a democratic government always works for the common good of the people, and no one is above the laws and not even the political parties; in essence, people have the right to oppose the power of the central government.
Everyone has the right to speak and walk freely and openly in a democratic system. Ultimately, the state is responsible for meeting the basic needs of all citizens.
