The Summons:- Book Review
My interest with john Grisham’s books began with “the summon” a book that contributed to making the story full of suspense and secrets. John Grisham worked as Mississippi legislature before becoming the best selling novelist. His first novel got published in 1089. Since that he has been moving his pen through the art of writing. His numerous books have been converted into films too. He has been awarded for his writing and his many books have been sold in three million copies.
In the book, the story revolves around three main characters: judge Atlee, Ray, and Forrest. A well-respected chancellor, Atlee is the father of Ray and Forrest. Ray, a law professor at the University of Virginia while Forrest is a druggie guy.
The story begins with a letter that Ray and Forrest receive from their old, sick father judge Atlee who is suffering from cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and stomach cancer. That seems to be the last meeting of the family. When Ray arrives there, he found his father lying dead on the sofa. The story turns into a twist when Ray finds 27 boxes with 3 million dollar money with a letter by the judge. Where he has mentioned Ray to be the executor of the money. Well! All the thrilling moments get started when his father hides that money and keeps them confidential.
Ray started investigating the source of money without sharing it with anyone. He anticipated that he is the only one who knows about the money but soon he realized that he is being followed by someone when he gets hunted. He was threatened by someone. So the question is that, who can be the next person that also knows about the suspicious money? What does ray do…? Does he split with Forrest or does he find out where it is from? Well! For figuring out this you have to give a read to this amazing book.
John Grisham does a really great job of keeping the reader interested throughout the book. The style of his writing surprised me even one can not predict what will happen next. The way he kept things secretive was outstanding. But the ending could have been much better as far as I think. However, it is a very good piece of writing. I recommend you not to forget to put it on your list of books to read!
