S.S Rajamouli’s “RRR” (“Rise Roar Revolt”) is the next film on our list. When it was released in theatres, it wreaked havoc. No one was surprised when this fantasy action drama became an instant success.
With 25,540,000 watch hours in its first two weeks on Netflix, the film entered the Netflix Top 10 list in the majority of countries around the world. It debuted at #6 in its first week and rose to #1 in non-English film at Globe in its second week. The film has remained at the top of the global charts for the third week as well. 3. Pushpa: The Rise
Star Cast: Allu Arjun, Fahadh Faasil, Rashmika Mandanna, Dhananjay, Sunil, Ajay Ghosh
Director: Sukumar
Pushpa: The Rise was the year’s first biggie from the South industry. Well, technically it was released in late December of the previous year but made it to the OTT platform in 2022. Even after months, the global hit song ‘Srivalli’ remains at the top of my Spotify playlist. The song became a worldwide sensation, and rightfully so.
Pushpa was adored and cherished in movie theatres all over the world. This pan-India release received a massive response at the Indian box office. Fans adored the character of their favorite actor, Allu Arjun. His signature step quickly went viral, with celebrities and athletes incorporating it into their celebrations. The anticipation and expectations for Pushpa Raj’s next film have skyrocketed.
The film became more widely available after it was made available on Amazon Prime Video. With its larger-than-life action sequence, Allu Arjun’s charisma, cinematography, and music, it’s a fun watch. The background music enhances the entertainment. Allu Arjun’s performance is incredible. The supporting cast is fantastic.
If you’re looking for two and a half hours of entertainment on Prime Video, this is another clear favorite.
4. Jana Gana Mana
Star Cast: Prithviraj Sukumaran Suraj Venjaramoodu Mamta Mohandas Shari Vincy Aloshious Dhanya Ananya
Director: Dijo Jose Antony
There’s always something about courtroom dramas. The film, directed by Dipo Jose Antony, is about the murder of a college lecturer, Sabha Maryam (Mamta Mohandas), which sparks a student uprising for justice. There is tension as police investigate the murder and identify the murder suspects.
In court, there is a lawyer who raises some difficult moral issues. ACP Sajjan Kumar (Suraj) is the main investigating officer, and advocate Aravind Swaminathan (Prithviraj) plays the lawyer who dares to find the true truth rather than the one fed to the public by the police and the media.
The film does lose ground in parts in the second half. The first half of the film is a head-turner, with Suraj as the police officer being both intriguing and convincing. Prithviraj takes over after the intermission.
Overall, this one is worth recommending if you’re looking for some high-quality Netflix content.
5. Night Drive
Star Cast: Indrajith Sukumaran, Roshan Mathew, Anna Ben, Siddique, Renji Panicker
Director: Vysakh
It takes the film 30 minutes to get up and running quickly. The film begins slowly, but once it gets going, it becomes very interesting and intriguing. The film is thrilling and keeps you guessing what will happen next.
We’ll ignore some climactic scenes in which the director does a complete 180 and attempts to take the lead male actor into a stereotypical South hero. Until that point, the film’s approach feels clean and simple. The screenplay is actually quite good.
The film is not without flaws, but it has enough going for it to be sat down to watch on Netflix. You will not be disappointed with this one. If you’re looking for a Malayalam movie on Netflix, you can’t go wrong with Night Drive.

6. Kantara
Star Cast: Rishab Shetty, Kishore Kumar, Achyuth Kumar, Sapthami Gowda, Manasi Sudhir, Prakash Tuminadu, Shanil Guru, Pramod Shetty, Deepak Rai Panaje, Ranjan
Director: Rishab Shetty
A story that is set in a South Indian village where spiritual legends and folklore of the Demigod Panjurli rule the hearts of the villagers. The movie progresses in three timelines of the late 1840s, then 1970s, and the present-day 1990s which shows the major part of the movie.
A king gives away his land to villagers in return for a stone (Panjurli) in his quest to find peace of mind and happiness in his life. The king lives happily but his ancestors of the present day turn greedy and plan to take back the land from the villagers.
Kantara (meaning sacred forest literally) is visually stunning with some incredible and honest performances. Rishabh Shetty, who has also directed the movie, looks absolutely true to his character and his performance is praiseworthy.
The look and feel and storytelling of Kantara make it one great watch. The background music in some key scenes will surely give you chills.
In short, if you are looking for an engaging South Indian movie on Netflix, then Kantara is a must watch for you.
