Shah Rukh Khan’s blockbuster action drama ‘Jawan’ has topped Netflix charts as the Atlee-directed film debuts at No. 1 in the Movies category on the streaming platform.
Released in theatres worldwide on September 7, 2023, the Bollywood actioner made its OTT debut on Netflix on SRK’s birthday, November 2.
Director Atlee Kumar’s first Hindi-language movie, ‘Jawan,’ also saw a simultaneous release of Tamil and Telugu versions in theatres. The movie, closing on its second month of a successful theatrical run, has grossed over Rs 1160 crore ($138 million) at the global box office.
SRK also breached the 1000 crore club earlier in the year with the spy-thriller ‘Pathaan,’ his comeback film after a four-year self-imposed break from movies following the box office debacle of ‘Zero’ in late 2018.
The actor is set for his 3rd release of the year with Rajkumar Hirani-directed ‘Dunki‘, slated for a Christmas 2023 theatrical release.
‘Jawan’ saw SRK portray his most action-packed role in his acting career, playing a double role of father and son.
The official Netflix synopsis of the movie reads: “A prison warden recruits inmates to commit outrageous crimes that shed light on corruption and injustice – and that lead him to an unexpected reunion.”
The 2-hour and 50-minute duration of ‘Jawan’ is exclusively available in its extended cut on Netflix. Made with a budget of around 350 crore, ‘Jawan’ proved to be a huge profit-maker for all parties involved, citing its box office collection, music, satellite, and digital streaming rights.
Directed by a South industry director, the film also starred South superstars Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi. The movie featured an extended cameo from Deepika Padukone, and Sanjay Dutt also appears in a small role towards the end.
The rest of the cast includes Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra, Sunil Grover, Eijaz Khan, Riddhi Dogra, Aaliyah Qureshi, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya, Girija Oak, Jaffer Sadiq, Leher Khan, and others.
‘Jawan: Extended Cut’ is currently streaming on Netflix in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu languages with English subtitles.
