Charles Dickens wrote this action/adventure novel. The story is about an orphan boy Oliver Twist who spent his childhood in a workhouse.
Oliver was given that name by the residents of the workhouse. In the workhouse, his life was lonely and sad. He was always left hungry at the workhouse because the owners wouldn’t provide much food.
He was once sent as an apprentice to an undertaker because he asked for more food. He ran away from there and went to London because of the mistreatment.
He meets a boy named Jane Dawkins while walking through the streets of London. He was offered a place to stay by the boy. Oliver accompanied him to stay.
The boy worked for Fagin, a man who forced poor and orphan children to steal for him. When Oliver realized this, he fled, but Fagin eventually tracks him down. Fagin wanted Oliver to pickpocket with other boys for him.
However, when he sent him with other boys to pickpocket, he met an elderly gentleman named Mr. Brownlow.
He tells Oliver about his real-life experiences. The elderly gentleman took Oliver with him to look after him under his supervision. This time, however, he was kidnapped and shot by soldiers.
Mrs. Maylie, a nurse, cared for him until he recovered. Mrs. Maylie later returns him to Mr. Brownlow. Fagin’s gang resumed their search for Oliver, but Mr. Brownlow had already been informed of the gang’s search for Oliver. When Fagin was informed about the informer, he ordered one of his gang members, Sike, to beat her to death. Sike then attempted but failed to flee the police. Fagin was eventually arrested for his bad actions and intentions, and the truth about Monk was revealed.
It is one of Charles Dickens’ mind-boggling novels. Because of the suspense and adventure, you will find it difficult to put down. It is unquestionably worth reading. If you enjoy adventure books, don’t forget to add it to your list.
