Asad Umar, Pakistan’s Planning and Development Minister, stated on Sunday that there had been “concrete evidence” of the start of yet another Covid-19 outbreak throughout the nation, this being this virus’ Omicron strain since infections continued to emerge throughout the country.
He stated on Twitter that such a fresh wave — the 5th one – is due in the weeks ahead.
“Genome sequencing reveals an increased prevalence of Omicron cases, especially in Karachi,” he stated.
Umar, who also serves as the head of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Coid-19, urged locals to wear masks, calling these the “best precaution.
Around December 13, the very first instance of an Omicron form of Covid-19 was identified in Karachi. According to government data, Islamabad reportedly recorded 64 known cases of Omicron, whereas Lahore has identified 49 infections of the strain.
