Lata Mangeshkar: End of a Golden Era of Music
The great music icon Lata Mangeshkar, famously known as the “Nightingale of India,” was a renowned Indian singer, loved and listened all over the world. According to records, Lata Mangeshkar was born on September 28, 1929, in the home of a classical singer and a theatrical artist. Her father began teaching her music at a very young age. Lata Mangeshkar started performing as an actor in plays created by her father by the age of five.
Lata Mangeshkar has provided the singing voice for plenty of Hindi cinema heroines in thousands of movies released over the years. She has sung approximately 5,000 songs in over a thousand Hindi films and as well as in 36 regional language films of Indian cinema.
She has a far-reaching influence on Indian cinema music. Lata has been challenging the frontiers of music with her mind-boggling skills and evergreen voice since 1942.
Unfortunately, Lata’s father died in 1942, and her career was disrupted as a result of her father’s death. However, her father’s friend, Master Vinayak, looked after the Mangeshkar family and gave her a part in the film Badi Maa.
She arrived in Bombay in 1949 and started studying Hindustani music with Ustad Aman Ali Khan. She performed well with many renowned musicians there. She steadily followed the path of music and made a huge fan following all over the world.
Later, in 2012, Lata Mangeshkar launched her own music company, LM Music. Her most recent release (March 2019) was the song Saugandh Mujhe Is Mitti Ki, written by Mayuresh Pai and the song was dedicated to the Indian army and India.
Consequently, over her eight-decade career, Lata Mangeshkar got several honors and accolades and the love of people all over the world. She was also the first Indian to play in the Royal Albert Hall in 1974.
She passed away peacefully at the age of 92. The 6th of February, 2022 will be remembered forever since a golden chapter has come to an end on this unfortunate day. We pray that her soul may rest in eternal peace.
