The restaurants and related food-service businesses are the second-largest contributors to food waste accumulation. On the one hand, the underprivileged or orphaned are almost always short on food, while on the other hand, nearly 70% of food is wasted in wealthy households.
According to some recent numbers, around 36 million tonnes of food are wasted in Pakistan each year. It is a great virtue to make somebody eat, and it also gives eternal pleasure.
When people go to a restaurant or other food sector for big occasions, they order more than they need and eat lightly, resulting in around 30% of the food ending up in the trash.
According to a UNICEF report on the state of global child nutrition, at least one-half of the world’s children under the age of five are malnourished.
The research serves as a wake-up call for Pakistan, which is one of seven countries that account for two-thirds of the world’s undernourished population.
These rankings are perplexing given that Pakistan wastes approximately 36 million tonnes of food each year.
