Child marriage is still widely practiced in Pakistan, owing to its deep roots in tradition, culture, and customary practices.
Nonetheless, it is a grave violation of the human rights of girls. One in every three Pakistani girls marries before the age of 18.
Child marriage, on the other hand, exposes girls to life-threating pregnancies, fistulas, sexually transmitted infections, and even death. Teen girls are also more likely than women in their mature age to die from complications during pregnancy, and marrying at a young age also reduces a girl’s autonomy.
Child marriage takes away a girl’s childhood and future prospects. Girls who are less likely to complete their education and are more vulnerable to domestic violence, abuse, and health problems.
