Heart disease is the most lethal disease in the world, and it is the leading cause of deaths around the world. It is to blame for a slew of untimely fatalities. Heart diseases become more and more common year after year, with 23.6 million people expected to die from cardiovascular disease by 2030 annually.
Every hour, at least 12 Pakistanis die as a result of a heart attack, and cardiovascular disorders account for more than one-third (34%) of all deaths in Pakistan.
According to a study, 42 percent of those with high blood pressure are unaware of it, which leads to strokes and kidney failure, and these conditions are causes of the high prevalence of heart attacks, killing 400,000 innocent Pakistanis each year, which is terribly tragic.
Prof Faisal Ahmed delivered these figures during a public awareness seminar.
This session raised awareness about the need of maintaining good heart health. He shared information about heart issues and provided several tips for enhancing heart health to assist individuals to live longer lives.
Prof Faisal Ahmed, speaking on cardiovascular conditions in Pakistan, stated, “Estimated 25% of adult Pakistanis have diabetes.”
Obesity is also on the rise, with 20% of Pakistanis classified as obese or overweight (Intense obesity leads to structural and functional changes of the heart, which causes heart failure)
Prof Faisal went on to say that prevention is preferable to cure, but we don’t pay attention to it. He emphasized that cardiovascular diseases seem to be on the rise in Pakistan and around the world, even though they can often be controlled, abstinence is the healthiest way for people to protect themselves.
Cardiovascular disease can also be caused by a lack of social engagement with family and friends. Furthermore, common symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, nausea, indigestion, and heartburn must not be underestimated.
Additionally, don’t forget to periodically monitor vitals such as blood pressure and blood sugar levels. This is especially important if you have underlying health concerns such as heart disease, irregular heartbeat, diabetes, high blood pressure, or obesity.
He stated that consuming fresh fruits and vegetables could be beneficial to our health.
Furthermore, we should limit our time spent watching TV and using our smartphones or computers. Aside from that, for pretty good health, we need sleep for at least 8 hours. Walking and gardening, according to Professor Faisal, can be helpful to us. Aside from that, we must avoid smoking because it is really dangerous to anyone and everyone.
I strongly encourage the government of Pakistan to hold more public seminars and programs to educate people about heart disease and raise awareness about it. The government should take serious measures to save thousands of lives.
