DC Extended Universe’s superhero film “Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom”, the sequel to 2018 blockbuster “Aquaman”, is performing very well at the global box office.
Over the past weekend, it surpassed Marvel’s “The Marvels” and is currently looking to outpace DC’s own “The Flash’s” global run.
On Monday, during the New Year holiday overseas, it grossed an additional $13.5 million, bringing its international cumulative gross total to $187.4 million across 76 markets.
Adding the $81.9 million from the US, the latest DCEU film, which reportedly has a production budget of $205 million (excluding marketing), has reached a total global gross of of $269.3 million. It will surpass “The Flash” $270 million global run by the time this article is published and is projected to cross the 300 million mark by the coming Friday.
Looking ahead, the movie is aiming for an modest $390 million to 450 million global run, considering the success of the first movie, the hype and budget of the movie.
The film has seen underwhelming response from the critics with a 36% Rotten Tomatoes score, 3rd worst behind DC Extended Universe releases Suicide Squad (26%) and Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice (29%).
